Our website operates as a central hub to share information and resources and aims to promote and support those who wish to engage with Welsh medium education in Wrexham. Our main focus is to raise awareness about the benefits and opportunities available to those who attend Welsh medium settings and to support the children and their families.

"Welsh medium schools are only for children from Welsh speaking backgrounds"

Almost 80% of the children who attend Welsh medium schools in Wrexham come from non-Welsh speaking homes. Their families are supported and each child is fully immersed during their first years at school

"There’s no point in learning Welsh in Wrexham because hardly anyone speaks it here"

According to the latest census statistics there are over 16,000 Welsh speakers in Wrexham and this number is increasing. There are events held in Welsh in the Wrexham area often and there is ample opportunity for the children to practice their Welsh outside of their educational setting

Over 2/3 of the world’s population are bilingual making people who only speak one language the minority. There is evidence-based research that shows there are lots of advantages to bilingualism with a high proportion of bilingual children achieving better results in both their languages and being more versatile and creative in their thinking

There are currently around half a million Welsh speakers living in Wales according to the latest census findings. The Welsh government has proposed that it aims to support Welsh language growth in order to meet a target of a million Welsh speakers by 2050, therefore Welsh is very much alive and is growing at a fast rate. The status of the language is also protected by the Welsh language commissioner
