About us
We are committed here in Wrexham to support, promote and develop Welsh medium education. Wrexham County Borough Council have prepared a new 10-year Welsh in Education Strategic Plan (WESP) for 2022 - 2032, which has been prepared in accordance with Welsh government guidance. The plan sets out our vision for Welsh medium education, our targets and the actions we believe will lead to achieving the seven required outcomes. The main aim is to increase the use of Welsh in education over the next ten years and these outcomes will in turn contribute towards achieving the Welsh Government’s Cymraeg 2050 Strategy, which aims to have one million Welsh speakers by 2050.
This plan was achieved through collaboration and careful planning with a host of local organisations, the Local Authority and the Welsh Government. A Welsh in Education forum meet regularly in order to share developments and contribute as a collective force to the development of Welsh medium education in Wrexham. The following organisations are part of the collective that contribute to the forum:
- Wrexham County Borough Council
- LA Education Effectiveness team
- LA Inclusion Team
- LA Welsh Language Officer
- LA Press Office
- LA Finance
- Councillors
- Headteacher representatives
This website was conceived by the Welsh Latecomers service as part of their commitment to the WESP outcome target to support and promote Welsh medium education within Wrexham County Borough, and was funded by the Welsh Immersion Grant 2021-2022 provided by the Welsh Government.
